Holiday «Big Maslenitsa» was held in Izhevsk

On the 17th of February there was held festive events in the framework of the Holiday «Big Maslenitsa» on the Central Square of Izhevsk and the embankment of the Izh Pond.

The Head of the City congratulated all participants by saying: «Today our hospitable Izhevsk accepts everyone who decided to celebrate this wonderful holiday came to us from the ancient times. We’re not afraid of frost and snow but anyway we love spring and of course we’re waiting for it. That’s why I welcome you on this Square. Here you can find different activities for everyone. Let this day be a truly festive day of «Big Maslenitsa»! »

Delegations of 23 municipal entities of the Udmurt Republic have come to the Central Square. There were held such events as Maslenitsa procession, theatrical performance «Big Maslenitsa» that let every participant feel the atmosphere of the ancient Russian holiday. Moreover, you could see performances made by folk bands and singers of the Udmurt estrade, take part in various games and the Maslenitsa round dance and of course eat delicious pancakes. The Holiday ended by the ancient traditional rite – burning the Maslenitsa effigy.

Also this day was memorable because of the grand opening of the festival «Udmurt ice». Its aim is to popularize ice sculpture as one of the types of modern art and promotion of the brand «Made in Udmurtia».

Foreign artists and professional sculptures from different Russian cities took part in the festive events.
