Official delegation of Hungary visited the capital of the Udmurt Republic

The official Hungarian delegation with the Head of the Hungarian Academy of Arts Dr. Tamas Kuchera visited Izhevsk from 8 until 10 October.

The Udmurt Republic was visited by the Culture advisor of the Embassy of Hungary in Russia Anita Khedi, the architect Lörince Cernyush and the coordinator of cultural programs of the Hungarian Cultural Center in Moscow Olga Urasinova.

This visit was dedicated to the opening of an exhibition of a Hungarian architect, founder of the Hungarian Academy of Arts Imre Makovec.

Alexei Zagrebin, a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, a member of the State Duma’s deputy group on relations with the Hungarian Parliament, expressed the hope for growing cultural and economic contacts between Russia and Hungary.

Dmitry Chistyakov, Acting Deputy Head of the City Administration for Social Policy, noted that Izhevsk is always open for cooperation and interested in expanding its cultural space. He also recalled that the Hungarian city of Tatabanya became the first twin-town of Izhevsk (an agreement on economic, commercial and cultural cooperation between the cities was signed on December 10, 1992). Since then, cooperation with the Republic of Hungary has been developing in different directions: from the exchange of educational delegations of schoolchildren and students to meetings of business representatives.

On October 9th, the delegation laid flowers at the monument at the grave of Hungarian prisoners of war who died in camps from 1942 to 1948. The monument was set up in 2004.

On the territory of the Udmurt Republic, in Uvinsky district, Votkinsk and Izhevsk, 306 Hungarian prisoners of war are buried. They were engaged in peat and logging, agricultural work and construction. In total, during the Second World War, 809,066 Hungarian soldiers and about 80,000 civilians were killed.
